Will Apple Ever Produce a 17 Laptop Again

Dissimilar the MacBook Pro, the MacBook Air is available in a single 13-inch form factor. There are rumors of a major MacBook Air redesign coming this year, but those rumors don't betoken that the screen size will get bigger or smaller with that redesign.

That leaves me here, again, asking for Apple to consider making a MacBook Air in a larger course gene. And for that matter, brand a smaller one likewise.

I am once again asking for a xvi-inch MacBook Air

If in that location was ever a time for Apple tree to shake upward the MacBook Air form gene, it seems like at present is that fourth dimension. Nosotros're in the midst of the transition from Intel to Apple tree Silicon processors, which has allowed Apple tree to dramatically redesign and meliorate products such as the 24-inch iMac and MacBook Pro.

Rumors betoken that Apple tree is planning a new MacBook Air design for some time this year. This update will purportedly bring new color options, a flat-edged design without a taper, white bezels, and more. If all of the rumors come to fruition, this will represent the largest redesign in the history of the MacBook Air. But one thing won't modify: the xiii-inch display size.

I'm far from the start person to say Apple should make a larger MacBook Air. Way back in 2016, my colleague Zac Hall argued that a 15-inch MacBook Air would be his "dream MacBook." (That story was actually based on a tweet from Zac in 2012, then he'southward been on this bandwagon for over a decade)

In my eyes, this larger MacBook Air would exist identical to the 13-inch model in every mode, but with a larger display. It would put an emphasis on the sparse-and-light grade factor, taking the xiii-inch sparse-and-lite design and scaling information technology to sixteen-inches. It wouldn't need to exist any more than powerful. Just requite me the MacBook Air with a 16-inch brandish and a larger bombardment to offset the impact of that larger brandish.

This would be the ultimate portable MacBook for me, and probably many other people. The xvi-inch MacBook Pro is a keen auto, merely weighing in at 4.8 pounds means information technology's noticeable in your haversack. If y'all demand the ability that the 16-inch MacBook Pro brings, then it's a great option. My situation, however, means that I don't need that power, only I would like the 16-inches of screen existent estate.

There's room in Apple's lineup for this model besides. While the MacBook lineup is expected to get a shakeup as shortly as next month, there's currently a $1,000 gap between the base of operations model MacBook Air and the base of operations model 14-inch MacBook Pro. There's a $700 gap between the entry-level M1 thirteen-inch MacBook Pro and the base of operations model MacBook Pro.

And once more, if you lot want a xvi-inch display, the MacBook Pro is your only choice and the base configuration there starts at a whopping $2,499.

In an ideal world, Apple could slot a 16-inch MacBook Air into the lineup around the ~$1,500 cost signal. With an M2 chip, 2 USB-C ports, and multiple colors from which to choose, information technology would surely sell similar hotcakes.

As an aside: I probably wouldn't buy information technology, but with the advent of Apple Silicon and the associated ability/efficiency improvements, now seems like a good fourth dimension for Apple to revisit the possibility of bringing back the 11-inch MacBook Air course factor also. Substantially a modern, yet more than meaty twist on the 12-inch MacBook that came out in 2015.

Unfortunately, this is all only me wish casting at this point. There are no rumors that Apple is actually planning a larger MacBook Air. All indications are that we can expect a new 13-inch MacBook Air and entry-level MacBook Pro this year, just no other major changes to the MacBook lineup.
